Author(s): Grant Peerless
While many books have been written over the years about individual airfields or those in particular counties or areas, UK Airfields Past and Present covers a large proportion of them in one publication—from Abbots Bromley to Zeals—providing potted histories of over 1,700 airfields dating from before the First World War through to the present day.
This volume describes the main activities carried out, based units or operators, and each site’s current status, as well as including information about military bases, civil airports and airfields, gliding sites, microlight sites, and larger farm strips, together with the probable number of aircraft based there.
Peerless’s thorough research is illustrated with over 120 photographs in both colour and black and white, most of which have not been published previously, giving readers a fascinating overview of the United Kingdom’s wide variety of airfields.
